Mari Broman's "The Column"
Where do you put your dreams?
Several years
ago I was a Salesperson for a decorating company, and the company
offered many wonderful incentives. I remember looking through
the newest incentive catalog and seeing a particular diamond
ring, that was certainly the prettiest and largest I had ever
seen. I looked at the amount of certificates that would be required
to earn it. I attempted to total what it would take to earn
this ring. Just what amount of sales would it take for the total
amount of certificates and thought hmmmm!!!!
Then I figured
out step by step how many sales appointments and the average
amount each one would have to meet, then how many of those I
would need, then how many in a week would be needed, and how
many in a year, etc. All the way down to when would I start
working at making this dream a reality. Thirteen months later
and many thousands of dollars in sales, (the smallest item cost
.50cents, the largest $46.00) I had earned enough certificates,
and I went to the seminar to collect my ring. No one was more
surprised, amazed, joyous, excited, (you name the feeling) than
myself.
Sometimes
we just may need to set out step-by-step planning our dream,
plotting it, breaking it down into mini-steps, making it manageable,
putting it on our list of possibilities. Maybe the only thing
holding us back from our dream is us. As we seriously plan and
plot what needs to happen, we are already closer to accomplishing
that dream. We have already made progress. We are putting possibility
thinking in our lives, rather than negativity thinking. We are
removing roadblocks, and stumbling blocks, as we are plowing
through the obstacles. We are putting our dreams into action.
For most of us we know Rome wasn't built in a day, but for me
that day along with many other days put together took a Mountain
and made it into a Diamond instead.
